The “great bath” is the earliest known public water container from the ancient times. It dates back to more than 5000 years in a city of Pakistan called Mohenjo-daro. The tank was constructed around 12m x 7m wide with the depth of 2.4m. The floor of the tank was made water tight by laying bricks with gypsum plaster and the walls were constructed in the similar way. A thick layer of natural tar was laid along the floor and sides of the tank to complete the waterproofing. Swimming pool history then prominently extended to the Greeks and Romans. With wealth came luxury and with luxury came swimming pools. Swimming pools were considered to enhance the beauty of the property. In fact, the word “Pool” comes from “piscine” meaning fish. Revolution came and pools became commercial in nature. Jacuzzi style custom pools were made in 8 BC. The Roman baths, then luxury pools were made with water falls, hanging gardens, overlooking terraces, libraries, villas and other luxury décor.
